POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Gibson County Child Care Coordinator is responsible for the management, direction and supervision of youth out-of-school-time programs, including but not limited to, before & after school, school break, and summer programs.  Included in the responsibilities are staff recruitment, training and supervision, active/on-site participation and monitoring of programs, and fiscal management and development of programs for youth ages 3-14.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.

  2. Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.

  3. Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.

  4. Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.

  5. Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.

  6. Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.

  7. Follow mandated reporting requirements.

  8. Communicate to all employees and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect their youth from abuse.

  9. Report essential risk management information to the board of directors.

  10. Manages the Gibson County school-age child care program and day camp programs, including assistance in developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in the program; securing, scheduling, and maintaining the needed facilities; creating and scheduling the activities or events; and maintaining program records or files.

  11. Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include actively supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

  12. Assures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate; ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.

  13. Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success. Maintains staff schedules, staff recognition and evaluates staff performance.

  14. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions; develops and maintains collaborative relationships with staff, parents and caregivers, and community partners and school administrators and school staff to maximize program impact and drive overall outcomes; maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within the area of responsibility. Addresses all inquiries and complaints in a timely and thorough manner. 

  15. Maintain high quality, innovation, expansion and continuous improvement of school-year and summer programs. 

  16. Organizes or participates in Y activities, such as committees, special events, and fundraising. 

  17. Must work closely with other departments to ensure good communication, cooperation and ensure good customer service throughout the building. Act as a member of the leadership team; aid in general building supervision. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The employee needs sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to safely supervise program activities.

  • Must be able to assist a small to average size child weighing up to 50 pounds. 

  • Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.

  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency 

  • Has a flexible schedule between the working hours of 6:00 am – 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen and Blood Borne Pathogen training required within 60 days of employment.

  • Child Abuse Prevention training required before/on first day of work.

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent in work experience is preferred.

  • One to two years related experience (e.g., supervisor or coordinator of child care programs) preferred.

  • Minimum age of 21.

  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards and completion of YMCA program-specific training.

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

  • Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills, organizational abilities, supervisory skills, budgeting skills and initiative in program development. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team is necessary.
